Sojourners and Exiles - Resources for an Election Season
In 2024, a few weeks before the presidential election, Pastor Caleb spoke on the topic of Sojourners and Exiles from 1 Peter 2:9-25. In this message he shared six principles, taken from Peter’s words, to help guide believers’ conduct in the context of any government.
Six Principles
Abstain from the passions of the flesh (Vs. 11).
Conduct yourselves honorably (Vs. 12).
Submit to governing authorities (Vv. 13-15).
Use your freedom for good (Vs. 16).
Honor everyone (Vs. 17).
Endure suffering with grace (Vv. 18-20).
These 6 principles guide our conduct in many ways, but they also apply to how we should interact with the political process. Only the gospel of grace can enable you to live this way. Who we are is God’s chosen people. As sojourners and exiles, where we are is not our home, and yet we can live full of hope, love, and peace, all because of what Jesus did.
